June Sadhana Play

June 21, 2024 - Sādhanā (सधना) is an ego-transcending spiritual practice. It includes a variety of disciplines in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain (Dharma) traditions that are followed in order to achieve various spiritual or ritual objectives. Sadhana is done for attaining detachment from worldly things, which can be a goal of a sadhu or student on the spiritual path. Wikipedia

When we roll out our mats for intuitive practice, we are practicing Sādhanā.

When we drink a cup of coffee or tea slowly and watch the birds outside,
we are practicing Sādhanā.

When we make time to be fully present with loved ones and feel abundant with Love, we are practicing Sādhanā.

A physical practice - such as pranayama, āsana and/or meditation - can provide a loose structure (< 5 minutes any time of day) to remind us to slow down, to remember who we are, to just be as a radical act of pause, gratitude and reflection.

We also know that practices which regulate the nervous system out of “fight or flight” and back into parasympathetic help the body and mind heal, and prevent long-term chronic pain and disease (dis-ease).

I wanted to share with you my recent practice in hopes it might provide an example or even a guide of what “sacred time” practicing Sādhanā could look like for you.

Whether an ongoing ritual or an occasional tool for regulation and reprieve, I’m here to remind you that yoga is not fitness.

When we live in yoga, we always carry the philosophy of Love and abundance for all of humanity and all beings in our hearts. Our mind becomes calm more easily, when we train ourselves to be still. Our body becomes lighter and less achy, when we remember to give it kindness and release the tension of the day through gentle movement.

Living in yoga is a sacred practice, a ritual, seen and unseen, on and off the mat.

I invite you to read through the Self-Guided Intuitive Healing practice I’ve created for you as a suggestion for a 2-3 minute Sādhanā practice. If you feel so moved, as I did in the video, you can also get on your mat and invite in any/all movement that feels good to you.

While I begin the video with 3 minutes of gentle movement, once I switched the camera off I indulged in a 15 minute child’s pose. Just what my body and mind needed to release tension and fully surrender away the stress of the day. I share this to illustrate that there is no “right way” - just what is right for you to promote your own healing.

I hope you find this practice useful. If you do, please forward this on and encourage friends and/or family to subscribe to the In Yoga Collective newsletter (sent bi-weekly ish).

Once we reach 250 subscribers, I have a special treat in store to share (more) with you. Looking forward to the unfolding and so grateful to have you here.

In Yoga,

Amy
